Behind the Design: Known the World Around Challenge Coin

Featured Product

The latest USPHS challenge coin is definitely PHS Proud! The coin is the "Known the World Around" challenge coin with lots of Corps pride to speak of.

Many officers will be familiar with the coin's title as it is from the first words of the official USPHS march:

"The mission of our service is known the world around..."

This is symbolized by the yellow quarantine PHS flag planted firmly in the ground of the globe. You'll notice three prominent stars in the sky of the coin. Each coin represents the three iterations of the U.S Public Health Service. The first being the Marine Hospital Service in 1798, the U.S. Public Health and Marine Hospital Service in 1902, and finally the U.S. Public Health Service in 1912.

The Corps's official motto "In Officio Salutis" completes the bottom hemisphere of the coin. The imagery that decorates this coin definitely provides lots to say about the history of the U.S. Public Health Service.

I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what other coins you would like to see by emailing me or reaching out to PHS Proud on FB, IG, or Linkedin!
